The Ugly Truth

I craved your caress
As if you were not the very toxic entity in my life
I knew I needed to dispose of
Your very presence was poisonous to me
Yet I let this go on as if addictions were acceptable
So I uttered the only words
I knew would make you go

“I do not love you anymore”

And then I watched you leave

I longed for your return
As if I did not slam the door behind you when you left
Keeping my ear to the door
Praying you did not walk away
I gave you every reason to leave
Secretly hoping you would still stay

Just because you know someone is bad for you
It doesn’t make you want them any less

I’m sorry that I lied to you
I do love you
But I can’t love you anymore
